FAQ:

Question:  Are these pieces available in different species of woods?

Answer:  Yes, these pieces are available in most species of woods.  The most common types are Black Walnut, English Walnut, Red Oak, Cherry, Mahogany and Curly Maple.  Depending on the availability of the wood requested, I may have to find the requested wood and delay the start of your piece.  If you have a special wood in mind, please contact me and I will be happy to try and accommodate you.  For examples of these woods, check out the WOOD page.

Wood has an endearing quality that will allow these pieces to be past down from generation to generation.  If these chairs are properly taken care of, they should theoretically last forever.

Question:  Do these take long to make?

Answer:  Time is all relative.  The rocking chairs take approximately 3-4 weeks to finish and ship.  I am constantly making chairs however and may have something you are interested in.  Please look at the current inventory page for ready chairs and other pieces.  If time is a concern, please e-mail me and I will be happy to let you know an estimated completion date for your chair.

Question:  Why hard wood rocking chairs?

Answer:  I have been dabbling in wood-working most of my life and recently realized the dream of having my own shop.  I discovered the art of rocking chair making and fell in love with the simplistic design that seems to capture the essence of the wood-craft.  These chairs offer complete freedom to experiment with ascetic design and form, while still maintaining the basic functional form of the rocking chair.

Question:  What size should I order?

Answer:  There are three basic sizes of these chairs.  Changes can always be made, please e-mail me for any size considerations you may have.  My personal chair is actually made slightly taller than a normal large since my legs are very long.  If you are outside these dimensions please e-mail me, based on your body size and weight I can create a chair that is custom fit just for you.

Sizes:

Small - for people 5' 1" to 5' 7"

Medium - for people 5' 8" to 5' 11"

Large - for people 6' to 6' 6"

Question:  How do I go about commissioning an item from you?

Pickup and Delivery:

Each chair takes 4-6 weeks to build.  Upon completion, the customer is welcome to pick up the chair in person in Java, NY.  I will deliver the chair under the following conditions:

100 mile round trip or less - free.

100 to 400 mile round trip - $0.50 a mile over the first 100 miles.
